The Lord will fight for you. Just stay calm. – Exodus 14:14.
When I think of this verse I think of the countless times I have wanted to fight back to things said about me, things done to me, and things I have encountered. Before you say well aren’t you a Christian and aren’t you supposed to turn the other cheek. My answer for you is yes, I am a Christian but also have a flesh side that has that fight or flight response.
I often need to put my hand over my BIG mouth and often I don’t do a good job of it.
Tonight was one of those nights, I got upset, reacted, and was hurt by something done to me. Then I opened my Bible app ( this app is truly amazing) and right on the screen was “The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”
I looked at it as God’s message to me. You need to just keep silent and stay calm.
How easy is that to do and how do we do that when we are seeing RED over situations that have been handed our way.
So what 3 steps can you take to remembering this promise :
First, stop and think. It’s one of the traits our behavior coaches taught our children. I remember lessons with Timmy the Turtle and going over them with my daughter Carleigh. Stop and think. Put away the phone, put away the email, and breathe and just think.
Second – Pray – yes I said pray second and I say this so you can collect your thoughts and go to God with whatever you need. He knows your heart, your situation, and yes even your story. He sees you and He loves you.
Third – Put down the phone. Don’t call your friend and gossip. Don’t call your friends and family and say do you know what so and so did to me. Believe me, I’ve done it. Just sit on it! (my dad says this often)
Sit on it. BE STILL. You can journal your thoughts which I have done and it’s more of a venting outlet for me than running to the phone.
I’ve watched countless times as the Lord fought for me in some hard situations. The greatest lesson I’ve learned in the middle of the battle is that God is for me. I love the verse in Romans 8:31 which says, ” What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?”
God is for you!! God is faithful. Trust Him.
