I love New Year’s Day. It’s a time to look back at the things that you did, things you wanted to do, and things you should or should not have done. It’s a reevaluation time. As I sat down to look at the blessings of 2017, my blessings were greater than my struggles.
We need to Look back on moments from 2017 and praise the Lord for where you’ve been. Even if it was hard places because God uses those, too. Then stop and look forward to what the Lord has for you in 2018. Look ahead to things you want to do, books you want to read, places you want to go, new things you want to try. Make a list of those things.
Often we look back and we look at our past failures, mistakes, and all the things we did thinking that we failed and we get stuck. We get stuck because we don’t see the beauty of how the Lord works in the mess. You see I love to look at things as God is the potter and we are the clay. We are being constantly molded and shaped into God’s image. We are daily being made more like Him. We won’t be perfect. It’s just not possible so don’t even try. But we can be more loving, kinder, more patience, more generous, and more understanding in 2018. We can look back but only look back briefly. I recommend you do this for only a few minutes. Then take time to set goals for 2018 and AIM HIGH!!
I want you to DREAM BIG because God wants you to DREAM BIG!! Maybe you want to pay off your house or car in 2018. Maybe you want to take a dream vacation that your family needs. Maybe you want to retire to spend more time with your family. Maybe you want to start a new business. Whatever it is write it down. Then AIM for those goals. If you want to get more organized take an organization class. Set yourself up for success. But DREAM FORWARD.
You are not your past failures, mistakes, or past relationships. You are not that broken marriage, broken friendship, or failed job. You are created in the image of the Lord, called to do great and mighty things. Yes you will have setbacks. It’s a part of life. But when you think forward and ahead to what He has for you. You’ll get excited.
Jeremiah 29:11 is a verse that I love so much. It reads: “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. They are plans for GOOD and not disaster, to give you a FUTURE and a HOPE.”
Set your goals for 2018, think forward!!
