Now Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1
Stepping out in faith isn’t an easy task. Taking big leaps of faith is both scary and exciting at the same time. How many times have you been scared to go in the direction the Lord is calling to you only to be
stopped in your tracks by fear?
There are different kinds of fear. Fear of displeasing others, fear of failure, fear of success, fear of the unknown, fear of loneliness, fear of rejection. Some of my friends are afraid of spiders or like me snakes. Their is a fear of just about everything. We are surrounded every day by fear. Fear is that it is the opposite of faith. I remember growing up learning a saying about fear that said Fear is False Evidence Appearing Real.
This saying helped me as I dealt with every day fears that came at me as a stay at home mom. I was fearful of if someone would stop by and they would see my messy house (this fear kept me from valuable friendships), I had a fear of being alone at night and imagined all the worst case scenarios. (Yep, I watched one too many movies). I had
a fear of when I went back to college that I would not be able to handle the course load and raising a family. I had a fear of letting my husband and my children down. I had a fear of my kids turning out
bad. I’m sure you can relate to my long list of fears. Most of which were totally irrational.
The opposite of Fear is faith as I said earlier. Fear is a control issue. We want to control our environment.
For me, I want those around me to be happy. I hate when someone in my house is sad, angry, etc. What I realized in my faith over fear quest was that I wasn’t in control of my life. You see as a Christ follower, I gave Jesus control of my life. So it goes back to God is in control not me.
Realizing this truth, I decided to focus what I knew. I decided to welcome others into my home. If they didn’t
like it – well they could pick up a sponge and help. This led to more valuable relationships built with great people who worked in my home. I decided to reach out to people and get to know them. I decided to build relationships, get connected. This resulted in my meeting my mentor Gail and starting our mentor relationship thru church.
Isaiah 41:10 says Don’t be afraid for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am you God. I will strengthen and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
On the Sunshiny Thoughts podcast this week my guest co host Megan Elizabeth from Above Rubies Studio shares a story about her leap of faith and how she became overwhelmed by fear. You’ll have to listen to hear the story. I guarantee you won’t want to miss it. But the Lord sent her a sign down the road where she knew that she was walking in the Lord’s plan for her family.
If you are fearfilled today, turn your fear around. I have a fear of flying. I hate it and when I have to fly I panic. I almost turned down a trip to Hawaii because of my fear of flying but you can read about that in my book coming out soon called Sunshiny Thoughts.
Often we let our fears get in the way of what the Lord has in store for us. We need to instead choose faith over fear. Click To Tweet
Often we let our fears get in the way of what the Lord has in store for us. Now yes, God gives us free will and I believe that He works all things together for good. But the Bible says in 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us a spirit of fear; (Stop there right there) God has not given you a spirit of fear. So know that when you are afraid that fear is not from the Lord. Let’s read further but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. God doesn’t want you to be afraid of what’s next for your life.
Instead he wants you to know He’s your provider, He’s your strength, He’s your shield, He’s your refuge, your place of safety, He’s your healer and so much more. On the other side of your fear is the destiny that God is calling you to. You simply have to conquer the fear and walk by faith.
Now I know it isn’t easy. I still struggle with fear daily. But every day I am reminded of two things God is faithful and God walks with me. I know that He will lead me and guide me in all things. I know that He has great plans for me and for my family. I know that He is good.
When you face those truths…fear goes dimmer and faith shines brighter.
Take some time today to listen to the podcast and share your thoughts
on faith over fear in the comments. I’d love to hear from you.
